Reinhard Krapp

Reinhard Krapp, born on November 27, 1953 in Lower Saxony, Germany, studied law and economics at the University of Muenster/Westphalia and the University of Lausanne/Switzerland.

He passed the first law examination at the Higher Regional Court in Hamm/Westphalia and the bar exam (second state examination) in Duesseldorf.

In 1981 he joined the German Foreign Service and worked for 37 years in various departments of the Foreign Office in Bonn and Berlin and at the German embassies in Ottawa, Cairo, Moscow and Sofia.

He also worked at the German Permanent Representations to the European Union in Brussels and to the United Nations in New York.

During his professional career he worked mainly in the field of international environmental policy. He was environmental officer at the German mission to the EU in Brussels, director of the department “International Environmental Policy, Climate Policy and Sustainable Development” at the Foreign Office and Counsellor and later Minister at the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York, responsible i.a. for international environmental policy and sustainable development. In 2015 he was Vice-President of the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly.

After his retirement in July 2018 he was admitted to the bar by the Cologne Bar Association and focusses mainly on international environmental law.

Attorney Krapp is laureate of the renowned Elisabeth-Haub-Prize for international environmental diplomacy and international environmental law.
